I remember God telling me this after I told him I was not ready to do something. Maybe it was the move to N.C, I am not quite sure, but his response to me was “You do not have to be ready to do something, just willing.” The fullness of God’s answer is breathtaking. I love God’s all-knowing wisdom. The thing that jumps out to me the most about this statement, is God’s way of saying “You do not have to worry; I have got this.” God’s character of “having this”, is love. I know no other way of putting it into words. God’s ability to “have it”, when He knows, I ain’t got it, makes me feel loved, carefree, and stress free. All the things he desires for me—Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7
This also tells me, that our obsession of; I am saying “our,” because I am sure all of you share this obsession with me—our obsession of wanting to “be ready” for stuff- everything at that, is unhealthy. We use the idea of being ready for things out of context. Our want of being ready is rooted in our desire to control the situation, more particularly, to have the outcome we see as appropriate. Do not get me wrong, we know that preparation is important hence, “faith without works is dead” – James 2:17, but we do need to acknowledge the idea that some things my brotha or sista, we simply grow into. I am pretty sure, Moses was not “ready” to lead the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, but guess what, he was willing(Exodus 3). I am pretty sure Abraham was not ready to leave his father’s house, but guess what, he was willing(Genesis12). And guess what again, when they moved, THEN they grew into the thing that they were not ready for, the journey that they took prepared them. All they had to do was be willing and trust God.
My point to you is, just be willing. That your willingness is enough. Do not get caught up in the world pushing you to be ready for something you do not have the capacity for—just yet. It is okay to walk into a big space and yet to “feel” like you have enough to fulfill what God has called you to, just understand that all he needs is your yes, and he will do, prepare, and carry you through the rest. Somethings you just grow into.
